Volunteer Opportunities

Lunch Buddies at Jefferson Elementary School    Everyone can participate in our Read Around the World Program.
There are two major events.
  • Lunch Buddies
  • All City Book Exchange

Lunch Buddies takes place during the months of January, February and March. Volunteers meet one day a week, for ten weeks, for 25 minutes with one or two elementary students over the lunch hour. Students, read aloud to their buddy from ability appropriate books they choose from a special level library. This library exists from the generous donations of the Kiwanis and others who support reading.

If the 10 weeks is too long, consider volunteering to be a substitute for a day.

Community volunteers are welcome to participate along with our Kiwanis friends. It's a fun and very rewarding experience.

Book Exchange - is an annual event in the spring. Volunteers gather at two public locations in Rochester throughout a selected (and highly advertised) day, to collect used books for children ages 5-11. Donated by community members, the books are then sorted and distributed to area elementary schools, where they are then distributed to the students. Our goal is to put an age appropriate book in the homes of each and every one of our school's children.  Community volunteers are welcome to participate along with our Kiwanis friends.

If you would like more information about these events or would like to make a donation, please contact any of the Rochester Kiwanis Sunrisers.  Books and funds for these events are greatly appreciated at any time.
